About

VerityRF Modem is an independent, open-source sound-card modem compatible with VARA HF and VARA FM. It is written in Rust; the desktop app is built with Tauri.

Status

VerityRF Modem is pre-release software, version 0.1.0. VARA HF, VARA FM, the desktop app and the observer work, and have been tested against VARA on simulated channels (see Compatibility). Still to do: a code-signed Windows installer, macOS packages and published container images.

Source code and issues

The project's repository is github.com/verityrf-design/verityrf_modem. The source code and the releases will be published there. Please report problems and ask questions in its issues.

Licence

VerityRF Modem is free software: you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation, either version 3 of the License, or (at your option) any later version. It is distributed in the hope that it will be useful, but without any warranty; without even the implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.

The desktop app uses the Inter and JetBrains Mono typefaces (SIL Open Font Licence 1.1). VerityRF Modem is built with many open-source Rust crates and, for the desktop app, Tauri and its dependencies, each under its own licence.

Trademarks

VARA is a trademark of its owner. VerityRF Modem is an independent, compatible implementation and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the VARA authors.

VARA HF and VARA FM are named on this site only to say what VerityRF Modem is compatible with. Winlink, PAT and VarAC are named only to say which clients work with VerityRF Modem. None of these projects is affiliated with VerityRF Modem.

Operating

VerityRF Modem releases the PTT when it stops and limits the longest transmission (ptt.max). You are still the control operator: transmit only where your licence allows, identify as your licence requires, and follow your rules for unattended operation.
